Dwight Yoakam returns to the stage after more than two decades

It’s hard to believe that Dwight Yoakam has played RodeoHouston just twice, in 1993 and 2004. His neo-traditional style seems like a perfect fit for the rotating stage.

Yoakam released debut EP “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” in 1986. It led to a major-label deal and the first of three consecutive No. 1 country albums. His sound helped usher honky-tonk and the Bakersfield sound back onto mainstream country radio and influenced generations of artists, including Sturgill Simpson and Kacey Musgraves.

Yoakam also made a successful transition to movies, with memorable roles as an abusive boyfriend in “Sling Blade,” a psychotic burglar in “Panic Room” and a soon-to-be-divorced husband in “Wedding Crashers.”

His last album was 2024’s “Brighter Days,” which includes a duet with Post Malone.
