Severe storms possible in West Michigan Tuesday evening

West Michigan could see another round of strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday evening into Tuesday night.

With the threat of severe weather, the News Channel 3 team of meteorologists have declared Tuesday as a Weather Alert Day.

The latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center has most of West Michigan under a “Slight Risk” (2/5) for severe thunderstorms.

We will be keeping a close eye on where a warm front sets up.

There is still quite a bit of uncertainty regarding the placement of this front.

Warm, moist air is located south of the warm front while cooler air is located north of the warm front. Where the warm front sets up will be key for determining who has a chance at seeing severe weather. (WWMT){p}{/p}{p}{/p}{p}{/p}

Severe weather is unlikely to occur north of the warm front.

Just south of the warm front is the most likely area to see rotating storms.

Due to the ample amount of shear in our atmosphere, any storms that do form are capable of rotating.

This means that all modes of severe weather are possible from damaging winds to large hail or even a tornado.

Not everyone will experience severe weather on Tuesday evening and Tuesday night, but everyone in West Michigan will need to stay weather aware.

Storms should develop after dinnertime Tuesday and move from southwest to northeast.

The threat for severe weather will continue into the overnight hours.

Stay with News Channel 3 for more updates on the potential for severe weather.
